How to Strengthen Wi-Fi Signal

Well, wireless connection has become an important thing for us as an internet user. It’s simple and easy to use. But, maybe the problem is about the signal. So, see my tips below to strengthen the wi-fi signal. Check this out! :)

How to make the Wi-Fi signal can reach a wide area and get a full signal? Here are my tips…

1. Place the Wireless Router in the center of room.

Mostly, wireless router uses the Omni Directional antenna (spreads to all directions). It’s better to place it in the center of room, so that the signal can reach each room corner. If it’s possible, find a wide/ big room so that there is no wall that retards the signal.

2. Pay attention for the placement.

Don’t place the wireless router right on the floor, near the wall, or metalic materials (such as iron). Because those all will decrease the signal strength. So, keep away from those three things.

3. Change the Wireless Router antenna.

As I said in 1^st point that Omni Directional antenna spreads to all directions, if you use this in a closed room it will be suitable. But, if you use in a opened place (outdoor)and not often moving to other place, you can change the antenna with High Gain Antenna which spreads the signal to one direction (point), so that the signal will be stronger. But remember to not often moving to other place.

4. Change the Wireless Network adapter with the better one.

If you use a desk computer (not notebook), of course you have a Wireless Network Adapter in it. Be sure that your Network Adapter is good and also can be changed with a better antenna, such as High Gain Antenna.

5. If it’s needed, add Wireless Repeater.

However the antenna has been changed into the better one, but it doesn’t mean you can reach fierce location. For this case, sometimes we need an additional tool which is named Wireless Repeater.

Wireless Repeater is used for strenghten and enwide the Wi-Fi signal. For example, with the ordinary antenna, we reach 100 meters radius. By using this, it folds twice become 200 meters or more.

But, of course to add this tool, we need some money. So, use it as your necessary. :)

6. Change the available Wireless Channel.

Wi-Fi signal can walk in some channels together. If you feel the available signal is not good enough and you find many channels in there, I suggest you to change into a smaller channel.

Don’t worry with this signal changes because your computer/ notebook will detect and adapt automatically when the signal is changing.

7. Keep away the Wireless Router from electronic equipments.

Wi-Fi signal works in frequency 2,4 GHz. So, you’d better to stay away your wireless router from electronic equipments with the same frequency, such as cordeless telephone which usually use 2,4 GHz.

If it’s happened, I recommend you to change with the different frequency, such as 900 MHz or move into wired-telephone. It’s a cheap solution anyway.

8. Always update the firmware for your Wireless Router.

Usually, some of popular Wireless Router producer provide the newest firmware for your router for a better performance. Always upgrade your firmware freely which is usually provided in their website. It might increase your Wi-Fi speed and performance.

9. Use a same brand for all of your tool.

However generally, the using of different brand for each Wi-Fi tool (router, adapter, etc…) doesn’t have any problem, but sometimes the signal will be better when we use from the same brand.

For example: your Wireless Router is from brand A. So, it’s better if you also use the Wireless Adapter with brand A too.

10. Upgrade your WiFi type from “802.11b” to “802.11g”

I’m sure that mostly all of connection owner has used the Wi-Fi Format type G. But, if you still use the type 802.11b, you have to change it or upgrade the type.

Actually, now is available type N which promises for a faster speed and wider radius. But, as far as I know, this type N is still not certified yet.
